Rocket DSL Dynamic IP Thank you for purchasing Rocket DSL from Networks On-Line. Below are simple instructions for setting up your computer to get online. If you have problems you may call us at 713-554-7100. You will be using DHCP to obtain an IP address from our system when you turn on your computer. This requires a few changes to your network settings. If you already have an Ethernet network interface card in your computer then you can perform this configuration now. If you do not yet have an Ethernet card (and you plan to use the one that is given to you by Southwestern Bell) then you will have to wait until the time of DSL install to perform this configuration.
Step 1: In the Windows control panel, double click NETWORK to open the network control panel. It should look similar to the following, but will vary depending on what networking components you have installed.
Step 2: Select the TCP/IP component that is associated with your Ethernet Network Interface Card. In the illustration on the previous page, we selected the Intel 8255x PCI Ethernet Adapter. Once you have selected the correct component, click on PROPERTIES. Once in the properties, select the tab that says IP ADDRESS. You need to set this to "Obtain an IP address automatically". This tells your computer that it needs to use DHCP to obtain an IP address.
Step 3: Next click on the tab that says GATEWAY. There should be no gateway configured here, if there is you need to remove it.
Step 4: Next click on the tab that says DNS CONFIGURATION. You need to disable DNS settings as follows:
Thats it! Reboot your computer and if your DSL line has been installed you should be on the Internet instantly. |
