Configuring Windows NT
Below is a short description on how to get Windows NT 4.0
server/workstation connected:
Double click on Dial-Up Networking. Fill in 'NOL' on 'Name of the new
phonebook entry'. Do NOT touch 'I know all about phonebook entries'.
Click on Next.
Put a check on 'I am calling the Internet'. Click Next.
Fill in '713-554-4500' on Phone number. Do NOT touch Use Telephony dialing
properties. Click Next, then Finish.
This should leave you in the 'Dial-Up Networking' dialog. Click on the
MORE button. (top right) and click on the top line, 'Edit entry and modem
properties'.
On the 'basic' tab, Entry name should be NOL, Comment should be blank,
Phone number should be 713-554-4500, Dial Using should be your modem, and
there should NOT be a check on 'Use Telephony dialing properties. The Dial-up ISDN line is
713-554-9600.
Click on the Server tab. Dial-up server type should be PPP: Windows NT,
Windows 95 Plus, Internet. The ONLY check should be on TCP/IP. Yes, that
means taking the check off of IPX/SPX. Yes, that means take the check off
of NetBEUI. Yes, that means take the check off of both Enable software
compression and Enable PPP LCP extionsions. THE ONLY CHECK SHOULD BE ON
TCP/IP.
Click on the 'Security' tab (don't touch the 'Script' tab). Put the dot
on 'Accept any authentication including clear text'. Click on OK.
Click on the MORE button. Click on 'DIAL'. A dialog will pop up asking
your User name, Password, and Domain. Put your logon name for NOL.NET in
User name. Put your password in the Password box, and leave Domain empty,
and put a check mark next to Save Password. Click ok.
The modem should start dialing, and after about a minute, you should be
online.
